Central Mindanao University Academic Paradise of the South
A faculty researcher from the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Central Mindanao University, has emerged triumphant by securing 3rd place in the highly competitive poster presentation category at the recently concluded 16th Annual Conference of the Asia Pacific Biosafety Association (A-PBA), held in Bangkok, Thailand.
The poster presentation featured participants from 47 universities, encompassing professionals from hospitals, laboratories, and academic institutions. Countries represented included Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Thailand, and the Philippines, creating a rich tapestry of expertise and perspectives.
Dr. Karla Cristine Doysabas, an Β expert in Veterinary Virology, exhibited her poster presentation titled “Encephalomyocarditis Virus (EMCV) is Potentially Derived from Eastern Bent-wing Bats in East Asian countries.” Her research shed new light on the origins of the Encephalomyocarditis Virus (EMCV), a pathogen that impacts a wide range of species, including both wildlife and domestic animals.
According to Dr. Doysabas, the conference provided her valuable insights into the latest technologies, protocols, and methodologies in biosafety and biosecurity measures, encompassing laboratory practices, equipment, and risk management strategies.
She sees the conference as an opportunity to share her research, engage with other professionals, and lay the groundwork for future collaborations. “I am honored that my research has gained recognition from researchers from diverse nations. It fills me with pride to represent Central Mindanao University in such a distinguished international poster research competition,” she added.
Meanwhile, this remarkable opportunity for Dr. Doysabas was made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Health Sciences Program (HSP) and the BioRisk Association of the Philippines (BRAP) through the Biosafety Enhancement Program (BEP).
