Program accreditation survey visit commences day-1

The accreditation survey visit officially started with a courtesy call at the Office of the President and an opening program at the Farmer’s Training Center, November 26.

This years’ third set of competent and high-caliber accreditors from Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc. visits two undergraduate programs and one graduate program subjected for accreditation.

The programs include AB Psychology (Level IVPhase 1) and AB History (Level III- Phase 1) for the undergraduate program; and MS Food Science (Level II) for the graduate program.

Dr. Judith D. Intong, Vice President for Academic Affairs warmly acknowledged the accreditors in her welcome remarks. She said: “To our visitors, I welcome you to the heart of Mindanao, in particular, I take pride in welcoming you to the Central Mindanao University, that we fondly call the ‘academic paradise in the south’.”

“We are proud to tell you that there are many things new and beautiful happening in the campus,” Dr. Intong emphasized.

According to her, “… accreditation has been used to enhance the implementation of academic programs and the management of schools as the most influential tool of quality assurance.”

Dr. Intong also highlighted that the local task force, working committees, partners and other stakeholders have high hopes coupled with fervent prayer. Dr. Intong was optimistic that “we [CMU] will be granted with the accreditation status of the programs we have applied for.”

Dr. Agapito M. Bayron, Jr., Chief of Quality Assurance Office then presented the CMU Key Officials and the members of the Local Task Force.

Seven qualified accreditors from different parts of the country composed the accreditation survey team headed by Dr. Marylou B. Ong, the Overall Coordinator from Cebu Normal University. The seven accreditors were: Dr. Marylou B. Ong, Dr. Marvien M. Barrios, Dr. Cecilia Elena P. De Los Reyes, Dr. Cornelia T. Partosa, Dr. Thelma A. Antonio, Dr. Aida L. Dela Cerna, and Dr. Luisito I. Tabada.

Dr. Ong also presented the trained and experienced accreditors with their specific designation. She also revealed that it is the common time for the three programs of CMU specifically the College of Arts and Sciences to be accredited.

“This is in order to attain success to one of the strategic directions set by CMU for the year 2018,” Dr. Ong added.

She supplemented that “The AACCUP’s role is to ensure that CMU remains competitive and relevant in the light of increasing global competitiveness.”

The three programs will be evaluated in ten areas: (1) Mission, Goals and Objectives; (2) Faculty; (3) Curriculum and Instruction; (4) Students; (5) Research; (6) Extension and Community Involvement; (7) Library; (8) Physical Facilities; (9) Laboratories; and (10) Administration.

The opening program was also graced by the CMU key officials – VPAA Dr. Judith D. Intong, VPUIGP- Engr. Reynaldo G. Juan, and VPA- Ricardo G. Villar, faculty, staff, guests, and students. The opening program also showcased the performance of the La Corda Singers from the College of Engineering who rendered the invocation and national anthem. The CMU Bidlisiw also performed a folk dance.

After the opening program, the accreditors proceeded with the evaluation and assessment of the pertinent documents needed for accreditation. (MJLTalisay)
