LGU-Maramag reaffirms partnership with CMU

Serving its neighboring communities is one of the long-term goals of CMU. This is done through partnerships with various organizations, one of which is the local government unit of Maramag.

Twelve AACCUP accreditors paid an official visit there on July 18 with CMU key officials, faculty, and staff. They visited the LGU Techno-Demo Farm located at Magsaysay, Brgy. Kuya in Maramag, and the town public market known as one of the cleanest in the region. The LGU-Maramag also prepared a fellowship dinner and a short program at the Municipal Session Hall.

Atty. Maribeth “Bing” S. Estrella- Lopez, Maramag councilor, expressed gratitude to the institution in her welcome remarks. She said, “I am a full-blooded CMUan, I finished my elementary, secondary and tertiary level [there].”

She added that she once worked as faculty member of the university’s Department of Social Sciences and served as the university legal officer for nine years.

Atty. Estrella-Lopez stressed that Maramag is privileged that they can easily tap the experts from CMU. “Just this time, we invited experts…even with a very short notice…” she said. “We have PhD’s [experts] to enlighten us on [certain issues].”

“We appreciate so much the help that CMU has been giving, the true partner of LGU,” she said adding that Maramag is known more as the seat of the premiere educational institution.

Atty. Joel P. Doromal, Maramag acting mayor and CMU alumnus, also shared how he developed the foundations that made who he is today. “I am not the person standing here if not because of CMU,” he said.

He also commended the partnership with CMU that keeps stronger year after year. “The accomplishment of the municipality would not be reached if it would not be [for] the cooperation and the assistance that CMU has extended to the municipality.”

Atty. Doromal revealed that because of CMU’s research and development extension services, they were able to tap the expertise of people. He said to the visiting accreditors: “I was told that you went to our techno-demo farm… That is also a [testament] of all the help given by CMU.”

The municipal techno-demo farm comprised various projects. These include inland fish and hatchery, plant nursery, hog raising, poultry, coffee plantation, banana plantation, and vermi-cast production, among others. The LGU led the sightseeing of inland fish and hatchery project showcasing their tilapia production.

Dr. Maria Luisa R. Soliven, University President, said in her fellowship speech, “I thank the people…for challenging us to do better.”

She said: “CMU as an academic institution is mandated to deliver quality education, to produce these experts, quality research, to generate new knowledge that will lead to finding solutions to our problems, and to do extension activities, and of course, production.”

Dr. Soliven added that CMU has reached out to the people in the communities especially the less privileged.

“Our very existence, as I have been always telling the people, is to meet all these objectives because the bottom line of all what we are doing is for the good of people,” she said.

Dr. Danilo S. Hilario, AACCUP overall coordinator from Bulacan State University, expressed his gladness in taking part of the CMU accreditation.

“Aking karangalan na makasama sa pagsisikap para mapahusay pa lalo ang pagdideliber ng mga programa sa inyong pamantasan,” Dr. Hilario added.

Some faculty members from the colleges of Agriculture and Arts and Sciences which submitted their programs for accreditation were also present during the fellowship dinner. (MJTalisay)
