CMU-CHE Hosts Latte Art Seminar Workshop

Central Mindanao University recently hosted a Latte Art Seminar Workshop for its 4th-year BS Hospitality Management students. The event took place at the College of Human Ecology Hall on November 23-24, 2023. Featured trainers were from Jamaican FnB, which was led by Mr. Renato S. Sumania, the training director who is well-known for his expertise in the field.

The Seminar Workshop proved to be an incredibly enriching experience, aimed at honing students’ skills in crafting intricate and visually stunning designs on lattes. The ability to create beautiful designs on lattes is a crucial aspect of the barista profession, and this workshop provided valuable hands-on training to its attendees. Led by renowned champions in the field namely, Mr. Rijeo Osabel and Mr. Marjo Ian Hablo, they shared their expert insights into the art of crafting latte designs.

During the workshop, the students were taught various techniques related to milk science, steaming, and pouring patterns. These techniques included creating shapes such as hearts, Rosetta’s, Tulips, and more advanced designs. The students were given ample opportunities to practice their skills and even participated in a competition to recognize aspiring individuals. The trainers provided feedback to help the students improve their techniques.

James Patrick Quilla, one of the coffee latte art competition winners, credited the workshop as an avenue that enhanced his technical and creativity skills, saying, “Attending the workshop increased my knowledge of coffee and sparked an interest in latte art. Winning the competition was a thrilling experience that I had not anticipated. Mastering latte art takes a lot of effort and practice, and one day is just not enough.”

Additionally, Riva Mae Agarin, who was also a winner, said that it opened an opportunity for her to learn such skills that she had never imagined before. “I am used to coming across coffee latte art on social media but never paid much attention to it. However, after participating in the workshop, I realized that designing and creating coffee art made me happy.”

The event not only equipped the students with practical skills but also provided them with an opportunity to learn from industry experts. The trainers shared their experiences and knowledge, which fostered a deeper understanding of the art and science behind latte art. This enriched the students’ academic journey and prepared them for the challenges of the industry.

Overall, the Latte Art Seminar Workshop at Central Mindanao University served as an excellent platform for the students to hone their craft and gain insights from accomplished professionals. It was a valuable learning experience that helped the students develop their skills and prepare for a successful career in the barista profession.
