University Research Office conducts an Orientation Seminar on Research Process

To level-off, discuss, and share the processes involved in the research implementation process of CMU- funded researches, the University Research Office conducted a one-day Research 101: Orientation Seminar on Research Process at the Farmer’s Training Center, January 29.

Eighty-three participants joined the orientation seminar. The participants were composed of the members of the University Research Committee, researchers of the CMU-funded researches, Research Office personnel and staff, and representatives from different units of the university.

Dr. Angela Grace Toledo-Bruno, Director of Research and faculty member of the Department of Environmental Science said in an interview that the rationale of the activity aimed to generate understanding between the researchers and the delivering units of the university.

“On the part of the delivering unit also, the researcher must also understand the whole process… and all those different difficulties and intricacies of the process,” Dr. Toledo-Bruno supplemented.

She revealed that there is a need to conduct the orientation seminar. It was the first ever venue to sit down to talk and address the research issues and concerns.

“We sometimes see research as a work…and sometimes we lose the value of why we are doing research, [in research, there] is something we have to share to the people,” Dr. Toledo-Bruno stressed out.

According to her, research is an avenue of viewing life in general, “it is not just work, [and] it’s finding some learnings in life when you interact with people and the environment.”

Moreover, Dr. Toledo-Bruno also talked about the proposal formulation to implementation and Ms. Liezel R. Jupakkal, the staff of Research Office also discussed the administrative concerns of research.

Other issues tackled were: Animal Care and Practice by Dr. Anecito G. Juan, Chair of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Ethics Review on Research by Dr. Luzviminda T. Simborio, Chair of the Institutional Ethics Review Committee (IERC).

The orientation seminar further discussed other concerns in the research implementation of the various delivering units of the university. Resource persons were invited and talked regarding research issues and problems encountered.  

Other topics included were: Integration of Gender and Development to CMU R&D Implementation by Dr. Eva N. Mendoza, Chief of the University Center for Gender and Development; Process of Request for Use of CMU Vehicles for Research Activities by Mr. Wilfredo R. Murillo, Unit Head of the General Services; Budget and Financial Concerns by Ms. Marilyn P. Callejo, Staff of the Financial Management System Office (FMSO) and Mr. Jedrex Timtim, Staff of the Budget Office; Bidding by Dr. Rolito G. Eballe, Member of the Bids and Awards Committee; Release and Inventory of Supplies and Materials by Ms. Adelfa D. Tejada, Staff of the Supply and Property Management Office; Publication by Ms. Hazel C. Sicnawa, Staff of the CMU Journal of Science, and Intellectual Property Rights by Ms. Ritchelle Mae S.
