The Institute of Computer Applications (ICA) was established in 2000 (BOR Resolution No. 50 s.2000) with its primary mandate to provide technical support to the ICT backbone of the university. The establishment of ICA has provided a significant development of the ICT-related function and operation to the university.

In its creation, Prof. Arnold S. Villamor was assigned to be the head of ICA with the director as its designation – hence, Director of the Institute of Computer Applications. The institute has been the key player in the outlook of the university to provide quality services to its stakeholders.

With its working members from the College of Engineering and the absence of the physical structure to house the institute, ICA was accommodated and stayed on the premises of the College of Engineering. After 5 years, ICA started to cater an academic function through its Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) program spearheaded by the director.

In July 2021, the institute officially became the newest academic unit of the university as the College of Information Sciences and Computing by the virtue of a BOR resolution. The college continues the pursuit of academic excellence through the BSIT program and future computing programs to be offered soon.

The Software Development Department was also established under the domain of the college to provide software solutions to the needs of the university and external clientele.
