Howling Wolves Champs CMU Palaro 2022

After two years of limited sports activity due to the pandemic, the spirit of camaraderie once again spread like wildfire in the university during the week-long CMU Palaro 2022 celebration held at the University Sports Complex from November 13-17.

The team Howling Wolves, comprised of the Colleges of Education, Forestry and Environmental Science, and Veterinary Medicine, was hailed as the overall champion of the recently concluded CMU Palaro 2022 with the theme “CMU @112: Celebrating a Culture of Excellence and Collaboration through Sports.”

During the opening ceremony, Dr. Jesus Antonio G. Derije, University President, stated his commitment to continuously produce holistic individuals who are excellent in the academic world and in the more diverse realms of non-curricular activities, such as the Palaro.

Dr. Derije urged everyone to have fun while reaping the benefits and learnings that come with it— to earn the values of sportsmanship, teamwork, and camaraderie. He said: “You may win some and lose some, but what is most important is being able to celebrate your wins with humility and accept your losses with dignity.”

The event was actively participated by five competing teams composed of 10 colleges, namely: Aggie Bulls (College of Agriculture), CBM Eagles (College of Business and Management, Wild Cats (College of Engineering and College of Information Sciences & Computing), Phantom Grizzlies (College of Arts and Sciences, College of Human Ecology, and College of Nursing), and the Howling Wolves (College of Education, College of Forestry and Environmental Science, and College of Veterinary Medicine).

Moreover, Dr. Jose Alexander C. Abella, Vice President for Academic Affairs commended the University Sports Council for organizing and spearheading the event. He also acknowledged the active participation of the CMU students led by the Supreme Student Council and the full support of the University Administration that led to the success of the CMU Palaro 2022.

There were 19 sports events including ball games, board games, athletics, dance sports, E-sports, swimming, and combat sports. Aside from sports events, the G. and Bb. CMU Palaro 2022 also became one of the highlights of the Palaro. _{[Iyren Dalipe Neri]}
