Doysabas and Dr. Kassey Alsylle T. Dargantes from the College of Veterinary Medicine. CMU is one of the six recipients in the country for this challenge grant from Health Security Partners and the Biosecurity Engagement Program. In collaboration with HSP, BEP, BioRisk Association of the Philippines 2015 (BRAP-2015), and the Office of the Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension, the seminar training was facilitated by experts from the College of Veterinary Medicine and Caraga State University who received specialized training on biorisk management from HSP and BRAP. Participants catered were dedicated students, faculty, and staff from the College of Veterinary Medicine, Institute of Biological Sciences, Center for Biodiversity Research and Extension in Mindanao, CAS-Department of Chemistry, Natural Products Research and Development Center, Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, and Natural Science Research Center, who play essential roles in their laboratories.
The seminar seamlessly blended presentations, Q&A sessions, hands-on demonstrations, and group activities, ensuring participants gained practical knowledge. It covered indispensable biosafety topics, including mobile laboratory setup, personal protective equipment, spill response management, waste management, risk assessment, and biosecurity aspects such as the secure transport of biological materials, risk assessment, and incident reporting.
